Power of Attorney (POA) capacity assessment and paperwork

Capacity assessment for Power of Attorney (POA) paperwork is not an NHS service and is not usually offered at Inchpark Surgery. In some cases where there is uncertainty regarding a patient’s ability to understand and grant POA, for example in early dementia, we may provide some guidance for patients and families on the appropriateness of pursuing POA. But in cases where there is no doubt regarding a patient’s capacity to grant POA then the paperwork can be completed by a solicitor. Alternatively there may be private GPs who can assist.
