Test results

Getting your test results

If your test results show that you need more tests or treatment, we will contact you.

Once a doctor has reviewed your test results, you can view them:

  • in your Patient Access account
  • phone us between 10am and 5pm one week after your test and we will tell you what the results are. For warfarin results please call for your result the day after your blood test.

Questions about your results

If you want to talk to a doctor about your results, please arrange a routine appointment (ideally with the same doctor who requested the test).

We do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.

Specimens

Please note, specimens are sent to the laboratory every weekday before 2pm.

Obtaining results of test requested by hospital doctors

We are aware that some patients who have had tests requested by hospital doctors have been told to phone the surgery for their results. This is incorrect advice as we only receive results of the tests that we request.

Results of tests are sent to the doctor who requested them for interpretation.

Your hospital doctor will normally send you an appointment or write to you with the results. This may take up to 6 weeks for normal results but you may hear sooner if further action is required.

If you have not heard or have further queries, please phone the hospital and ask to speak to your doctor's secretary.
