Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest way to order repeat prescriptions is by using the GP online system: Patient Access

This account shows you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • email scripts.inchpark@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk making sure you clearly state your name, address, date of birth, telephone number and the name and strength of the medication needed. Please note that the email will be sent via an un-encrypted link.
  • bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm

Telephone requests are only accepted in exceptional circumstances, for reasons of safety.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at the surgery
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to discuss or have a question about your medicines, you can call the practice and ask to speak to the pharmacists who are available on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (9am to 5pm).

Serial prescribing

Are you stable on repeat medications? Are you on fewer than six repeat medications a day?

You could be elgible for serial prescribing

This allows for one year of medications to be sent to your chemist if you are stable and have completed your annual reviews.

This is convenient for you as well as reducing workload for pharmacists and GPs.

If you are interested please speak to reception who will arrange a callback with our pharmacy team.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

What to do with old medicines

Take them to the pharmacy you got them from or bring them in to the surgery. Do not put them in your household bin or flush them down the toilet.
